Best VT Tailgate music, news and links

     In just 6 weeks from today, the Hokies will take on the Boise State in one of the most anticipated games in Virginia Tech history.  FedEx Field will become Lane Stadium North for the day as Hokie fans will storm Landover, MD to watch the Fighting Gobblers take on the Broncos.  At 8pm the lights on the ESPN cameras will turn on and it’s showtime for Frank Beamer’s 2010 squad.  But hours before the players take the field, it’s the fan’s time to shine.  The sweet smell of charcoal, turkey legs, and beer will fill the air to the tune of LETS GO HOKIES chants as thousands of fans surround FedEx Field for the first tailgate of the season.

      Absent is the sound of 105.3 The Bear from the loudspeakers atop Lane, so what songs will you choose to get you pumped up to let that cornhole bag fly?  I’ve given it some thought and listed my top 5 must-have songs to have on any good VT tailgate playlist:

Some news and notes:

• Football preseason practice begins next Friday, August 6th.  Gobbler Country breaks down the 2010 Virginia Tech Football media guide with a closer look at the depth chart.
• The Blacksburg Hokie Club will be hosting a Welcome Back Football Picnic on August 8th in Lane Stadium.  If you’re in town, stop by for for some good food, guest speakers Frank Beamer, Bill Roth, and Mike Burnop, and an autograph session with the team. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for kids.
• The Hokies will travel to Miami on November 20th in possibly the toughest true road game of the season. Isn’t this a nice picture?
