The Hokies hope the 92-70 offensive explosion Sunday against UNC-Greensboro will translate to future success in the Hokies’ travels to Anaheim this week and in their return to Greensboro for the ACC Tournament in March. Against the Spartans, Malcolm Delaney once again paced the attack for the Hokies, scoring a game high 23, while Dorenzo Hudson finally started to look like his former self, pitching in 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Erick Green continued to improve, chipping in 10 points and 5 steals. As a team, the Hokies forced a whopping 29 turnovers and turned them into 37 points.

While we’re all stuffing ourselves full of turkey on Thursday, Tech will tip off the 76 Classic at 2:00 pm Eastern versus Cal State Northridge. Northridge enters the game on a high note, coming off a 109-66 drubbing of Vanguard at home. The Matadors were handled easily by their other two opponents, both times failing to score more than 63 points versus Pac-10 foes UCLA and California. Northridge is led by senior guard and Virginia native Rashaun McLemore, who is averaging 15.7 points and 2 steals per contest. Unlike UNC Greensboro, Northridge only has one player over 6-8, but the Matadors will go deep in their lineup, as no player averages over 24 minutes per game. Opponents are averaging 25.7 free throws made per game against the Matadors.
Aside from Northridge, this year’s 76 Classic field includes DePaul, Murray State, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Tulsa, and UNLV. If the Hokies take care of Northridge, they will face either DePaul or Oklahoma State on Friday at 2:30. After an 8-23 season last year, DePaul, under former Clemson coach Oliver Purnell, is 1-1 after beating Chicago State and losing to Western Carolina. Oklahoma State is hitting the road for the first time this season after cruising through 3 straight home contests. The Cowboys made the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season and are outrebounding their opponents by an average of +11 per game.
