Virginia Tech overcame a cold-shooting first half to defeat the USC Upstate Spartans 64-53 Thursday afternoon in Cassell Coliseum. Jeff Allen paced the Hokies with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while guards Malcolm Delaney and Erick Green chipped in 17 and 12 points, respectively. Tech (8-4) will host Mount Saint Mary’s on Sunday before resuming ACC play versus Florida State next weekend.
Game Notes:
- Tech’s starting backcourt of Green and Delaney combined for 5 steals, 8 assists and 1 turnover.
- The Hokies shot a dismal 2-of-14 (14%) from three-point territory after shooting over 35% the last 4 games.
- Jeff Allen had 0 fouls in 37 minutes of action. That’s a first for Allen in 112 career games.
