Recruiting rankings should always be taken with a grain of salt, but Hokie basketball fans should feel encouraged that basketball scouts continue to be impressed by Tech’s incoming recruiting class. The 2011 recruiting class includes four players, three of which have played their senior season together at Hargrave Military Academy (Barksdale, Brown, and Rankin).
ESPN recently released their final Top 100 ranking, in which top recruit Dorian Finney-Smith moved up from #19 to #17 overall. Dorian also moved up to #26 overall in Scout’s latest ranking and is the highest rated 4-star recruit. Shooting guard Robert Brown has been the Hokies biggest mover. Originally a three-star recruit, Brown is now a consensus four-star and has jumped as high as #79 in the rankings.

Max-Preps has also named Dorian Finney-Smith to their 2011 High School All-American team. Dorian was one of five players selected as a First Team All-American after he led Norcom High school to a #3 national ranking. Last year's First Team included standouts Harrison Barnes (UNC), Kyrie Irving (Duke), and Jared Sullinger (Ohio State).
The 2011 class currently sits at 12th and 18th according to ESPN and Rivals, respectively. Both have the Hokies as the 3rd best recruiting class in the ACC, behind only Duke and North Carolina.
