The Virginia Tech basketball program received excellent news today as highly rated recruit Dorian Finney-Smith of Portsmouth, VA verbally committed to play basketball for the Hokies. Dorian is a 6’7” 190 lb forward, who chose the Hokies over Old Dominion and the University of Florida. Finney-Smith averaged 19.7 points and 13 rebounds last season for Norcom High School, where he lead the team to the Virginia AAA state title. He will likely play the wing position at Virginia Tech. Finney-Smith is the latest addition to the 2011 recruiting class that was already ranked #24 in the nation by ESPN. Here’s how the class of 2011 looks now:

The Hokies technically have one more scholarship for this class, but with JT Thompson’s season ending injury, the Hokies may have to adjust their plans when it comes to scholarships next year. However, Coach Greenberg will continue to recruit for this class (another top recruit Dai-Jon Parker still has the Hokies on his list) as the number of scholarships available usually has a way of working itself out. Similar to what Jeff Allen and Dorenzo Hudson did, Rankin, Brown and Barksdale have all transferred to Hargrave Military Academy for their senior year of high school. This should help their team development and chemistry before they even set foot on campus. The future is bright for Virginia Tech basketball and welcome to the Hokie Nation Dorian!

GREAT POST, JAMES (I will retweet this post tonight when I get home... don't have twitter at work)... don't forget, Hokies are also in the mix for Adjehi Baru, a center from Virginia... I think he is at the Miller School near Charlottesville (heard his three choices were Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Virginia). Can you imagine if we get Baru, too? The future is bright for Virginia Tech men's basketball, man. GO HOKIES!!!
Thanks, and you're right Adjehi Baru is another player the Hokies could possibly get. I would love to see him come to Tech, a 6'9" player like him with the rest of this class could really push us to the next level.
James, we would have a full team... with Baru, we would have a center, in Rankin, the point guard, in Brown, the shooting guard, in Barksdale, the power forward, and in Finney-Smith, the small forward. This would be huge.
