After receiving a verbal commitment from one of the top players in the 2011 recruiting class on Tuesday, the Hokies have gotten a big boost in the rankings. Dorian Finney-Smith, a 6’7” small forward from Portsmouth, VA, committed to the Hokes Tuesday afternoon, becoming the fourth member of what is shaping up to be the best recruiting class ever for coach Seth Greenberg. ESPN has bumped the Hokies up to #10 in the class of 2011 rankings, up from #24 before Finney-Smith announced his decision to come to Tech. Rivals.com had the Hokies at #20 before the announcement, and as of October 11th, has bumped the Hokies up to 13th. Here’s an except from the ESPN article on Dorian Finney-Smith’s commitment:
I chose Virginia Tech because Coach Greenberg recruited me himself. Plus, I wanted to win a national championship in my home state.

Update (9/30): After getting a commitment from four star prospect Ky Madden, Arkansas jumped from #12 to #4, which bumped the Hokies down to #11. Obviously these rankings are fluid and Virginia Tech would move back into the top 10 if we get another recruit.
