Virginia Tech got to its first ACC win the old fashioned way with a tough trapping defense that forced Florida State into 19 turnovers and 35.5% field goal shooting. The Hokies played 40 minutes of zone defense, not exactly Seth Greenberg’s forte, but it worked well enough against a tall, athletic Florida State team. Jeff Allen led the Hokies with a monster performance, scoring 24 points and grabbing 11 boards. It’s Jeff’s third straight double-double and the Hokies 6th straight win, bringing them to 10-4 (1-1 ACC) on the season.
Game Notes:
- Today’s victory was win number 500 inside Cassell Coliseum.
- Tech gave up 17 offensive rebounds but allowed only 12 second chance points off them.
- The Hokies took 37 free throws and connected on 34 of them (92%), outscoring the Noles by 26 at the line.
- Tech improved to 71-8 under Seth Greenberg when holding the opponent under 40% field goal shooting.
