Greenberg: “We need you there”

          The Hokies host Maryland in a key home game tomorrow evening and coach Seth Greenberg is asking the fans to bring their support to a new level.  The student crowd was less than stellar in the Hokies 102-77 beatdown of Georgia Tech and the student support will be needed even more so during tomorrow’s weeknight game.  Tech desperately needs to hold serve at home and a win over Maryland would lock up a tiebreaker in the ACC Tournament seeding.  If you weren’t aware already, stand-by seating is available (as usual) to students on the East side of Cassell Coliseum.  Please come out and support the Hokies as they continue to fight for an NCAA berth.  You can read Greenberg’s full letter after the jump.

I would personally like to thank SGA for their support of Blackout. The money raised is going to an outstanding cause in honor of Allen Calloway, a former player that exemplified everything that is good about Virginia Tech and Tech Basketball. We appreciate the student government’s support of this event.

With three remaining home games on our schedule, each and every one of them takes on a greater significance. I feel that our team is playing with good energy and the possibilities are unlimited as we enter this stretch run. Now we need everyone “All In” more than ever.

I was extremely disappointed in the student turnout in our game against Georgia Tech. I understand you don’t always win a ticket through the current lottery system, but as with each game all season you still can attend the game through the stand-by line. Students without a ticket need to line-up on the East side of Cassell Coliseum, closest to the practice facility, prior to the game. Close to tipoff, you will be allowed to take open seats in the student section and upper corners until all seats are filled.

Virginia Tech basketball is a by-product of the support we have received from the community, the university and you, the student body. You have created the energy and the atmosphere that has enabled us to bring College GameDay to Blacksburg. You have created the energy that has enabled us to beat North Carolina when they were number-one in the country. We need you now, more than ever, as we begin the drive to the post-season.

We need you there early, passionate and with ownership and great energy. We need you there to see the Hokies, as we prepare for the final month of the season. Each and every game is a separate entity. This home game is the most important home game on the schedule. The opportunity to sweep Maryland would give us tiebreakers in determining ACC Tournament seedings.

As always, I appreciate your support and I look forward to seeing you at D2 for Chalk Talk Tuesday at Noon, to give you better insight into our game plan with Maryland. Again, it’s not about the opponent, it’s about Virginia Tech basketball, as we march toward March.
